About me
I am a doctoral student in Hispanic Studies at UC Riverside specializing in sociolinguistic justice within higher education and U.S. Latino communities. My research investigates how systemic power dynamics and raciolinguistic ideologies manifest as linguistic shame and insecurity. Rather than treating these affective experiences as personal flaws, I analyze them as structural inequities inscribed onto marginalized bodies. To address this, I bridge sociolinguistics with educational psychology and critical, decolonial pedagogies to design original materials and workshops where participants reject the deficit perspectives targeting them, collectively co-construct knowledge, and cultivate agency over their language and identities.
